Models ka kya hoga?
Bollywood Buzz
It’s going to be a starry, starry time this fashion season too. The buzz about heavy celeb presence in the two fashion weeks is strong, and Delhi can look forward
to many Bollywood denizens walking the ramp.
Deepika Padukone is almost certain to walk for Ranna Gill, sources say, as might model-turned-actress Mugdha Godse. The buzz is also strong that Karisma Kapur, based in Delhi now with hubby Sunjay, might walk for friend and stylist Manish Malhotra, like she has in the past.
JJ Valaya’s grand finale at the WIFW might also feature one or more Bollywood glam girls – Kareena Kapoor and Minissha Lamba are the names doing the rounds.
And of course, Dev. D actress Kalki Koechlin had confirmed that she’ll be walking the ramp.
Dolled up Delhiites
Delhi’s social circuit regulars aren’t far behind Bollywood glam girls when it comes to walking the ramp. Nupur Kundu, Shibani Kashyap, Shovana Narayan, Yamini and Bhavna Reddy, Alpana Gujral, Seema Kohli and Minu Bakshi are some of the names that are likely to walk the ramp this time.
For many, this isn’t their first ramp stint. Painter and dancer Nupur Kundu, who’s walking for Charu Parashar, says, “I’ve been a dancer, so I’ve performed on stage for many years, and don’t get stage fright. But the experience of walking the ramp will be different from performing on stage. I’m fashion conscious, and am associated with the show because the subject is about woman power.”
Charu also has Yamini and Bhavna Reddy, Shibani Kashyap and Seema Kohli walking for her show. Dancer Yamini says she’s “excited but nervous. I’ve been performing on stage for years, but this is a different feeling. I’m not that fashionable, so I was a little taken aback when I was asked to walk the ramp. When my mom came to know, the only advice they gave me was to walk straight, and walk well,” she laughs, adding, “My sister is very fashionable and wears lots of designer stuff, and I’m sure she’ll be more confident than I am.” Seema says her children found it “funny” that she was walking the ramp, and that it’ll be a challenge for her. Shibani is excited “because Delhi is my town, and I see Delhi as the fashion hub of the country.”
Shovana Narayan, Alpana Gujral and Minu Bakshi are walking for Reynu Taandon. “So far, we’ve seen only models and Bollywood stars on the ramp, so it’ll be nice for people to see women from different fields on the ramp, and I’ll try to be myself,” says Shovana. The prospect of a ramp stint is “amusing” to Alpana, and it makes Minu “nervous”. “I do wear a lot of designer clothes, but I never thought I’d be chosen to walk the ramp one day. This came as a surprise,” says Minu, an educationist and singer.
