Fire in fash factory

A fire broke out in designer duo Nikhil and Shantanu Mehra’s factory in Noida on Monday. “Investigations are still on,” says Shantanu. “The fire broke out in the finishing department of the factory. I was in the factory at the time. No one knows how it happened and what triggered it. The senior quality checks head died in the fire and two other workers got injured. One is critical, but the other is out of danger. I’m glad that all of them had insurance cover. We had all the security and safely measures in place.”

He says that the three employees were rushed to a hospital in Noida, where Hari Babu, the QC head, passed away, and the other two are still under observation. “I don’t know how to react to this. I am saddened by the demise of our employee – he had been with us for eight years. It could have been any one of us in his place, because the finishing department is frequented by all of us,” adds Shantanu. He also says that he didn’t have many garments in the department at that time. “The police is investigating the incident, but what’s going to remain with us for the rest of our lives is the loss of a very good person from our team,” he adds. He says that the factory has been sealed for a few days till the police investigation is on.

When contacted, a senior Noida police official said that investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the fire in the factory. “Only once that is done will we decide whether there can there be any negligence case against the owners,” the official said.
