She is half-sister to Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, and the elder daughter of the famous couple of Bollywood, Hema Malini and  Dharmendra.She also has a sister named Ahana Deol.The name ‘Esha’ comes from Sanskrit and is derived from the Upanishads to mean “the divine beloved”.She has her mother’s beauty and her father’s acting sensibilities to make her own name.

She attended Jamnabai Narsee School, where she excelled at soccer and then went on to attend Oxford University and obtained a Masters Degree in Media Arts and Computer Technology. She is also an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer and was trained by her mother, who is a famous exponent of that particular dance form herself.Amongst her friends at Bollywood are Kareena Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan.
