Anamika comes home
The ball has been snatched away from Delhi and Mumbai, this time it’s again going to be a Kolkata designer who presents the grand finale at the Lakme Fashion week Fall Winter 2009 on March 31. Anamika Khanna, incidentally, is a core team member of the Delhi-based third fashion front — Sumeet Nair’s Fashion Foundation of India (FFI). She had chosen to move away from feuding designers at the FDCI-run India Fashion Week in Delhi earlier last year along with designers Tarun Tahiliani and Raghuvendra Rathore.
Mumbai caught a glimpse of this pretty designer last September as she showcased her couture collection at the India Couture Week and won accolades. Anamika is thrilled at being selected by LFW and said, “It’s more like a homecoming for me. In 2004, I was the grand finale designer at the Lakme India Fashion Week in Delhi. Now I’m happy to close the Week in Mumbai. And, honestly, the fashion divide (read FDCI, FFI, LFW) never bothered me. It’s all about how ones designs and sensibilities suit a show. And perhaps that is why Anil Chopra and the LFW board went ahead with my name.”
Anil Chopra, LFW advisor, said, “Anamika weaves together a timeless Indian heritage accompanied by a modern, eclectic touch. She has taken Indian fashion global with her craft and is a known name at the Paris Fashion Week and trade shows in London, Singapore, New York and Los Angeles.”
